Description :-

Ahmedabad:

Gujarat University has declared the results of its PhD entrance examination, with 214 candidates qualifying out of 1,317 who appeared for nearly 700 available PhD seats. To qualify, candidates were required to secure a minimum of 50 percent marks. Among those who cleared the exam, 177 candidates belonged to the open category, while 37 candidates were from reserved and other categories.

For the first time, the university conducted the PhD entrance test by shutting down the entire campus to ensure smooth and secure examination proceedings. A total of 1,443 candidates had registered, but 126 applicants remained absent for various reasons. An unusual case was reported in which an accused lodged in Surendranagar Jail appeared for the science PhD entrance examination but scored 45 marks, falling short of the qualifying criteria.

The university conducted the entrance examinations in accordance with GCAS portal guidelines, under which individual universities were permitted to hold their own PhD entrance tests. Examinations were conducted across approximately 700 different subjects.

Despite the relatively low pass percentage, university officials indicated that there is little likelihood of vacant PhD seats, as more than 500 candidates have already qualified the UGC NET examination. These candidates are exempted from the local entrance test and are eligible for direct admission in their respective disciplines.

The Research Development Committee (RDC) process is expected to be completed in the coming days, after which the PhD admission process will begin, ensuring full allocation of seats across various subjects.
