GU to Hold PhD Entrance Test on Aug 12

Gujarat University (GU) has announced that it will conduct the PhD entrance examination on August 12 for the current academic session. The decision comes amid concerns raised by some MEd students, who claimed they were unable to complete registration due to delays in the declaration of their final results. However, university authorities stated that no formal complaints were received in this regard.
According to data shared by the university, a total of 2,649 candidates registered for the PhD entrance test across various disciplines, competing for nearly 700 available seats. During the document verification process, 38 applicants were disqualified after being found ineligible.
In addition, 575 candidates who had already qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) were exempted from appearing in the entrance examination, as per admission norms. After accounting for disqualifications and exemptions, 1,441 candidates are expected to take the PhD entrance test on August 12.
University officials noted that preparations for the examination are currently underway. Meanwhile, some MEd students have sought a resolution to their issue, requesting permission to register despite delays in their result announcements. The university has not yet issued an official response addressing this specific demand.
For comparison, around 1,800 candidates had appeared for the PhD entrance examination conducted by the university in the previous academic year.
