GU campus to remain closed today for PhD entrance examination

Ahmedabad: Gujarat University (GU) will hold its PhD entrance examination on Tuesday, with 1,441 candidates set to appear for admission across more than 700 subjects. To prevent any disruptions or controversies—issues that have affected the exam in earlier years—Vice-Chancellor Nirja Gupta has ordered a complete suspension of all academic activities across the campus for the entire day.

Initially, 2,469 applicants had registered for the test. After verification, 38 candidates were found ineligible, while 575 NET-qualified candidates were exempted from appearing for the exam. In comparison, around 1,800 students took the examination last year.

The test will be conducted from 12 pm to 2 pm, and the answer key will be released later in the evening. However, unlike previous years, examinees will not receive a physical copy of the question paper.

For the first time, the PhD entrance exam is being held on a working day instead of a holiday. This, along with the full campus shutdown, has drawn strong objections from the NSUI, which claims that the arrangement may be used to favour certain candidates.

Candidates who qualify will move on to the group discussion round before final registration in their respective PhD disciplines.
